Airbnb Data

I’m excited to present a data visualization tool for my paper “Racial Discrimination in Participation, Pricing, and Ratings on Airbnb (written with Juliet Schor).

You can check out Airbnb statistics in 10 major metropolitan areas in the United States, and see how they are distributed across neighborhoods (census tracts) with different racial compositions.

While participation on Airbnb seems to favor areas with higher proportions of non-White residents, those areas face worse outcomes on the platform (in terms of prices they can charge, revenue they can earn and ratings can they get).

Click through to explore the visualization tool and see for yourself “Who Gets to Share in the Sharing Economy.”
